Church Street resurfacing postponed yet again!

The much needed "machine patching" of Church Street between its junctions with Englefield Road and Crown Lane has been postponed yet again! It has already been postponed twice: once because of works by the gas company in Station Road, then because of the bad weather last weekend. Now, West Berkshire Council has belatedly realised the road at the corner of Station road will be dug up as part of the work to replace the gas mains in the High Street.

This also means that this section of Church Street will therefore not be closed to traffic this Sunday (30th September).

The council has asked Southern Gas Networks to change their schedule so that the work at the High Street/Station Road junction is done before the main part of the High Street. Once this is done, the council will then be able to get on with the resurfacing.

The resurfacing needs to be done urgently as the potholes in this stretch are a danger to cyclists.
