Smoke blowing towards Theale from fire at Beenham

Another fire has broken out at the composting plant in Beenham. The smoke from the fire is currently blowing towards Theale.

The fire is being seen as a non-emergency incident by the Royal Berkshire Fire Service (RBFRS).

I am very concerned if the fire is allowed to "burn itself out" as the last fire at this site continued burning for three months.. Although there may not be any immediate threat to life, the smoke may seriously affect those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis, etc.

I have asked the West Berkshire Council officers concerned if they can persuade the fire service to extinguish the fire.

  1. Can i just add that this fire has infact been burning now none stop since the end of November, i've phone West Berks Council and no one seems interested, everyone seems to bang on about climate change yet this fire has been burning for almost 6 month which i find disgusting, last year i was told i have serious lung problems and i had half my lung removed last year and i'm not even 40 years old yet.

  2. Thank you Councillor for raising the issue, and please keep the pressure on the council to sort this out, as it is ruining the quality of life for many people.
