Letter to local papers against proposed Tory cut of budget for Lollipop Ladies in West Berkshire

Dear Editor,

the Conservative administration at West Berkshire Council is proposing to abolish the budget for lollipop ladies. This means that they will be taking a great risk with the safety of primary school children going to and from school. This risk is being taken to save just £16,000 of the £3M cuts they are making.

They could save almost half (£7,500) of that by cutting the budget for sandwiches at internal meetings and training sessions. My Liberal Democrat councillor colleagues and I would be more than happy to forgo the sandwiches if it would help save the lollipop ladies.

Kind Regards,
Alan Macro
Chair, Liberal Democrat Group
West Berkshire Council
