Planning application to convert Red Lion into a house and build 8 flats refused

The planning application to convert the Red Lion into a house and build eight flats has been refused permission for the following reasons:

  • harmful impact on the character of the area, conservation area and the adjoining listed building
  • degree of actual, and also perceived, overlooking which would be detrimental to the amenity of the occupiers of houses in Meadow Way
  • overlooking of front garden of 7 Church Street
  • insufficient number of car parking spaces
The applicant approached me last Saturday on my High Street walk-about and told me that he had been advised by the West Berks planning department to withdraw the application. The fact that he hasn't suggests that he will appeal against the refusal.
