West Berkshire Council did not need to close its youth clubs

West Berkshire Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee was told last week that it could not keep its youth clubs open because there was no money. However, the council took £1.5M more from the taxpayer last year than they needed to cover their spending on services. The Conservatives would have needed to spend only a small part of this to keep the youth clubs open.

The committee was also told that the council is not monitoring youth clubs run by volunteers. How can parents be confident that clubs are being run by suitable people?
